چکیده
This study explores the influence of trade policy uncertainty on medical innovation investment in developing nations from 1980 to 2020, with a focus period COVID-19. Long-term impacts sectoral patterns, governmental changes, foreign technology entering have little effect findings. paper also shows long-term link between innovation, uncertainty, research-and-development spending. Innovation’s negative response shock research development’s positive corroborates bidirectional unidirectional causality. contributes terms countries and, most importantly, trends contemporaneous given inflow technology, importance recent times.

متن کاملTrade Policy Uncertainty and Exports: Evidence from China’s WTO Accession
To understand the effects of trade policy uncertainty on firm-level export decisions, we study firm-product data on Chinese exports to the U.S. in the years surrounding China’s 2001 WTO accession. Following predictions based on a model of heterogeneous firms, we provide empirical evidence that product-level tariff uncertainty reduction spurred a notable reallocation of export activities across ...
متن کاملInnovation under Regulatory Uncertainty: Evidence from Medical Technology.
This paper explores how the regulatory approval process affects innovation incentives in medical technologies. Prior studies have found early mover regulatory advantages for drugs. I find the opposite for medical devices, where pioneer entrants spend 34 percent (7.2 months) longer than follow-on entrants in regulatory approval. Back-of-the- envelope calculations suggest that the cost of a delay...
متن کاملCompetition Policy and Innovation in Developing Countries: Empirical Evidence
Firms in Eastern Europe and Central Asia that feel their competitors pressure them to innovate are more likely to innovate than firms do not. But price competition also reduces rents—and therefore the resources that firms have to invest. This paper assesses how competition policy affects these two different aspects of competition and how each affect innovation. It finds that enforcing competiti...
